Dr. Deanna Kelly, a professor psychiatry and the acting director of the Maryland Psychiatric Research Center, said that

“We think that it has some benefit for some people’s mental health,” Dr. Kelly said. “We’re looking at psychiatric symptoms. In people that have severe mental illness, medications don’t work for everyone, so using new strategies like a ketogenic diet could offer benefits.”

However, she did note that they are far from knowing a ketogenic diet can help everyone, but she is hopeful about its prospects.
